Hello my name is Sef and I am 9 year’s old. And I go to Excellence Charter School of Bedford Stuyvesant. The reason I am writing this essay is because elephants are becoming endangered. And I think that is happening because people are working elephants too hard in the circus. So read this essay to learn what kind of things circus owners do to elephants. How they show affection ,and how they feel when they get taken away from their families.
The reason you should care about elephants is because they are the biggest land animals, they take baths together, they show affection, and sleep together. I mean they’re sort of like us. So if you kill them, it’s like you’re killing yourself.
Have you ever been to the circus before? Well it is not that fun for the elephant. Well if elephants don’t do a good job the owners will starve the elephants, whip them, and take them away from their families. But the worst problem is getting sent away from their family because elephants need to show affection or loving feelings to each other. The way they show affection is by wrapping their trunks together. And that is the way they communicate also.
So please don’t go to the circus because if you keep going, the circus owner will keep doing horrible things to the elephants and other animals. Don’t go to the circus because owners will keep getting money. Many circus owners take animals from animal preserves. An animal preserve is where animals live and no humans can go into their habitat. They have animal preserves so people won’t kill animals. Rich people can help this issue by giving money to charities that help animal preserves. And another solution for not going to the circus is going to the zoo, museum or the amusement park. But PLEASE DON’T GO TO THE CIRCUS.

That’s almost 2 years! Elephants stand up day and night when there sleeping. Now let me tell you about the body of an elephant. Elephants have these teeth call tusks. The tusks are made out of ivory. Elephants have pads on their feet so they don’t make a lot of noise. Elephant’s flap their ears to make them cool. They also put mud on them to get them cool. Elephants have tough, thick and wrinkled skin. The wrinkled skin traps water which also is another way to make them cool. There are just so many things I love about elephants but there is something very sad that’s going to be in Chapter 3.

Now if elephant were lost from their home that is called habitat loss. But let me tell you why people kill elephants. People kill elephants because elephants steal things from a lot of houses. If you want to stop this land clearing and poachers killing elephants, you will need some help because you are not perfect. If poachers take a long time to wake up, you should steal their machine guns. But first you should get all the tusks and put them somewhere where poachers could never find them. And you should protect the elephants. Here in America, we should make signs that say “DON’T KILL THE ELEPHANTS!” and another sign is “THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE YOU CAN MAKE MONEY WITH!” You should call the news and ask them to report on these issues.

There are so many things to learn about elephants! So much! Coming up next is something horrible that will happen to elephants.
This is part of my essay that makes you sad. I am going to talk to you about circus work. My issue with circus work is that the people that are playing the circus really beat animals. There have been records about elephants beat in the circus. I don’t think that is right because elephants have a right to be free like us. The number one problem is why elephants are working too hard. One of my connections to this subject is I went to a circus when I was six years old. At the end of the show the whole crowd walked out the circus and saw a dead elephant. I don’t think elephants should work at all. I think elephants should be free living in the wild.
My solution for elephants not getting hurt is not working the circus. Two is to not kill elephants, especially not just for taking their tusks away. Taking the life of an elephant just to get their tusks so a person can carve a necklace out of it is wrong. Now, stop right there. That does not make any sense. Which is more important? A necklace or an elephant? You decide.
My point that I am trying to tell you is that in my opinion, everyone should not hate elephants. I am an elephant lover. You make the choice whether or not you take an elephant’s life or buy ivory jewelry. If you’re not buying it, the people who are selling it may not keep on killing the elephants and maybe one day they will realize that what they are doing is wrong. How can you do that kind of thing to an elephant? You make the decision. Which is more important? A necklace or an elephant? You decide.

I care about elephants because they are just like us and we will give them love, treats, care, and respect. But the thing that ticks me off is that people are still poaching elephants in Africa. I just don’t get it, why would you run up to an elephant and poach it? Poaching is when people stick a long stick in elephant’s jaws or along their face. They also use guns to poach the elephants. The poachers are trying to get their tusks so they can make jewelry out of their tusks. You can think about that for the remainder time we have left for the elephants. Okay, enough about that, another reason why I love elephants is because they are elephants and they need respect. They respect each other by wrapping their trunks together. Maybe elephants are misunderstood. I mean like if people are still poaching them, burning down habitats, and leaving elephants for dead, they must be misunderstood. I have some important social issues to discuss with you about how elephants are dying every day and night. Thousands of them are dying every year. The way they are dying is by gunshots from farmers and poachers who are taking their tusks. Farmers are also taking away food from elephants. In this essay I am going to tell you about why I care for elephant’s existence on Earth. I am going to tell you about solutions to make this problem better and make sure it never happens again.
I am going to tell you about why I like elephants so much. I like elephants because they forage for food. That means they look for food peacefully without bothering any animals at all. It walks in a herd with their calves and their juveniles. The only kinds of elephants that are in the herd are females because the bulls leave the herd when they are mature. They go form bachelor herds. How are they bachelors if they already had kids? I don’t know, but maybe you can write an essay on that yourself! Those are just some of the reasons why I care and like elephants so much.
I am going to talk to you about land clearing and poaching. Land clearing and poaching are the same because elephants die in the same way. Land clearing is when farmers put fires on the fields so elephants can’t eat. That makes them sick and sometimes they die. Poaching is when people kill elephants and take their tusks. I don’t know about anybody else but I think it’s sad to see animals die like this. I think I am crying right now because of the sadness.
I think I could give you one million ways you could help elephants and you could, too. The first way is you could stay in the rainforest with them to protect them from enemies. Or you could go to the President and ask him to send the army there because there is more of the army than the poachers. You could also stop buying jewelry that they made out of elephant’s tusks because if you stop the poachers will realize that the tusks are not as important as they were.
