Circus Work

Hello my name is Sef and I am 9 year’s old. And I go to Excellence Charter School of Bedford Stuyvesant. The reason I am writing this essay is because elephants are becoming endangered. And I think that is happening because people are working elephants too hard in the circus. So read this essay to learn what kind of things circus owners do to elephants. How they show affection ,and how they feel when they get taken away from their families.

The reason you should care about elephants is because they are the biggest land animals, they take baths together, they show affection, and sleep together. I mean they’re sort of like us. So if you kill them, it’s like you’re killing yourself.

Have you ever been to the circus before? Well it is not that fun for the elephant. Well if elephants don’t do a good job the owners will starve the elephants, whip them, and take them away from their families. But the worst problem is getting sent away from their family because elephants need to show affection or loving feelings to each other. The way they show affection is by wrapping their trunks together. And that is the way they communicate also.

So please don’t go to the circus because if you keep going, the circus owner will keep doing horrible things to the elephants and other animals. Don’t go to the circus because owners will keep getting money. Many circus owners take animals from animal preserves. An animal preserve is where animals live and no humans can go into their habitat. They have animal preserves so people won’t kill animals. Rich people can help this issue by giving money to charities that help animal preserves. And another solution for not going to the circus is going to the zoo, museum or the amusement park. But PLEASE DON’T GO TO THE CIRCUS.

In conclusion, making elephants work too much is killing them and making them become more endangered. And this concerns me because people are hurting elephants. So I hope you respond back to my 5 paragraph essay.

Sef,

This essay is marvelous. It is a huge accomplishment for you. I am so proud of how you used topic and conclusion sentences without my help!

Sincerely,
Mr. de Leon

Sef-
I learned something from reading your essay. I did not know that the elephant shows affection by wrapping it's trunk with another. You taught me that the elephant really is more like a human being than I ever realized. I am a vegetarian and animal rights isssues are close to my heart. I hope that other people will be inspired to help the elephant because of your powerful words.
Kind regards,
Ms. Genzlinger

Sef,

Excellent essay. I already believed that the circus was cruel to animals, but after reading your essay I feel even more certain that elephants should not be put in circuses.

Great writing,

Dear Sef,
As a former high school English teacher, I appreciate a well-written essay. You nailed it, Sef!
You have demonstrated the classic methods of persuasive writing: the logical facts plus an appeal to the emotions. I agree that the circus promotes the abuse of elephants, and I plan to stay away.
Now I am an elementary school librarian, so of course, I love books. This year my students and I discovered an enchanting book that your class might like, too. It's called "Elephants Can Paint."
See some of the elephants' paintings (and buy one if you have hundreds of dollars) at this web site:

http://www.elephantart.com/catalog/pr_elephantspaint.php

Read a little about the book and ask your librarian to buy it at this website:

Thank you for an inspiring essay.

sef,
i am happy to learn that Mr. deLeon is teaching you and the rest of the class something so important as helping others. Elephants are especially important and they have been around for centuries. We as humans need to do whatever we can to help ensure that elephants and all living creature do not become extinct!! We should not patronize places like the circus that harm and neglect these animals for not performing in the way that a human wants..rather we need to leave them in their home and let them live and be happy. I am proud of you and the rest of the class for doing such a wonderful job !!

Sef,

This is a very insightful and informative essay. You have changed the way I look at the circus. The elephants are lucky to have a writer as convincing as you are in their corner.

Keep up the great and important work.
