Elephant Care

Hello my name is Justin. A social issue is an issue that affects everybody in a group. I am going to write about an elephant social issue. I have some important social issues to discuss with you about how elephants are dying every day and night. Thousands of them are dying every year. The way they are dying is by gunshots from farmers and poachers who are taking their tusks. Farmers are also taking away food from elephants. In this essay I am going to tell you about why I care for elephant’s existence on Earth. I am going to tell you about solutions to make this problem better and make sure it never happens again.

I am going to tell you about why I like elephants so much. I like elephants because they forage for food. That means they look for food peacefully without bothering any animals at all. It walks in a herd with their calves and their juveniles. The only kinds of elephants that are in the herd are females because the bulls leave the herd when they are mature. They go form bachelor herds. How are they bachelors if they already had kids? I don’t know, but maybe you can write an essay on that yourself! Those are just some of the reasons why I care and like elephants so much.

I am going to talk to you about land clearing and poaching. Land clearing and poaching are the same because elephants die in the same way. Land clearing is when farmers put fires on the fields so elephants can’t eat. That makes them sick and sometimes they die. Poaching is when people kill elephants and take their tusks. I don’t know about anybody else but I think it’s sad to see animals die like this. I think I am crying right now because of the sadness.

I think I could give you one million ways you could help elephants and you could, too. The first way is you could stay in the rainforest with them to protect them from enemies. Or you could go to the President and ask him to send the army there because there is more of the army than the poachers. You could also stop buying jewelry that they made out of elephant’s tusks because if you stop the poachers will realize that the tusks are not as important as they were.

Reader, if you are reading my essay right now, I’d ask you to love the peaceful elephants and feel the sorrow for them because they do not deserve this. They are animals! Goodbye and thank you for your patience.

Justin,
I really liked the way you wrapped up your essay. Thanking the audience for their patience is also a great way to conclude a public speech. Well done...I can tell that you put a lot of work into this.

Justin,
I love the peaceful elephant too! I am so disturbed by what is happening to them. I hope that Americans will write to the President and request that he does something to protect the endangered animals on our Earth. If many people come together to support animals like the elephants, I'm sure there could be a change. Your passion is inspiring to me.
Sincerely,
Ms. Genzlinger

Justin,

I love your essay. Can I say that? It is a fantastic example of what you can do when you try your hardest. I pushed you and pushed you during this unit and look at the great work you have done! I am so proud to be your teacher. I am also glad that you taught me about how terrible this situation is. I mean, I knew about poaching, but your essay gives a clear picture of the atrocities. Keep writing, Justin. You did an amazing job.

justin,
great job! we all need to be mindful of all living things...elephants and rainforests too. it is such a shame that people do not respect the elephants or land enough to protect it. burning the fields and forests to make way for farms is just as bad as poaching because it ultimately kills the animals ( field and forest burning takes away animals sources of food). your article is very informative. good job.

Justin,

You're absolutely correct. We need to do something about the plight of elephants. They are amazing animals and the world would not be the same if they became extinct. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this issue. You have definitely opened up my eyes to this tragedy. With you on their side, elephants have a much better chance of survival.

Keep up the great work.
